This past Sunday, on November 9th, 2014, I was saddened by the news that one of my greatest Mentors in Faith, Dr. Myles Munroe and his lovely wife, Ruth Munroe among others perished in a plane crash. It is a sad day for those of us who found inspiration, encouragement, strength, hope and wisdom in the Good News Message that this luminary proclaimed. I came across his books, videos and messages over 10 years ago, and have since gleaned and shared his wise teachings.

I did not realize how his messages had transformed me until years after a two year contract position at a Non-Profit, where my roles and responsibilities meant working with those at the bottom of our social and economic strata. It is here that my paradigm was tested, and I had to emerge as the leader, the “help” when my clients reported for their appointments. As you may recall, 2010 was a very challenging time in the nation and globally following one of the worst recessions in the history. Needless to say, being that my background is in business management I was literally a novice in a field that required one to see things from human psychology lenses–or simply put, empathy was one of those attitudes that I needed to learn. In the beginning days, I loathed going to work, and although I still continued to seek employment in my field, things were bleak everywhere, so, I decided to change my perspective after all. One day during this transition, it dawned on me that I had what my average client needed: hope, inspiration and encouragement.  I realized all they needed was a cheerleader, someone who believed in their worth, someone who could relate to their struggles and quest for a better future, a purpose, and that they too have a destiny!

You see, Dr. Munroe’s wit and knowledge had by this time influenced my thinking even though it was unbeknown to me.  This position, as I later realized served as a platform where the principles learned from this life coach stood the test.  I had always known that I delighted in helping people figure things out, but never had I entertained the notion that it could be in this type of environment.  Thankfully; I learned, that to influence others in the business world, or in any relationship, leaders must first of all deal with their issues.  Too, they must be empathic, deliberate and lead intuitively with the heart, and not the mind only if they expect success.  And I mean the kind of success that lives on even after one’s death.

To me this is the kind of a leader, Coach Munroe was.  As I alluded earlier, I followed his teachings almost daily and still do.  In fact, after carefully considering his principle questions “the fundamental questions for you and I to consider if we want to Die Empty.”  I am on my lot, and am not stopping till I am emptied… woohoo!!!  Nevertheless, hindsight is 20/20, I enjoyed the job afterall, and till to this date; I have a number of clients who still call and write me to share their progressive yet prolific report on how they have since been able to overcome life hurdles, and are now on to prolific living.  In addition, this position turned out to be the launch pad to my Prolific Life–as a Coach–one whose accolades are not from a top ivy Ieague school, best firms in the country but rather from life itself and the giver of it;  I help individuals who are stuck or feel stuck get unstuck, and move on to finding their purpose in life, joy and fulfillment just as I did.  Thank You beloved Coach Pastor for helping me get unstuck and on to my destiny!

The sudden passing of this Wise Soul, Scholar, Leader, Life Coach, Business and Government Consultant, Motivational Speaker, Author, Father and Preacher of the Kingdom message is heart breaking.  However; as one who was inspired, learned and transformed by his knowledge, wisdom, zeal, leadership and life, I am more than ever motivated to keep on in my life’s purpose, and on towards “Emptying” myself.  You taught purpose, lived purpose, died living purpose and launched me in my purpose!  And as you always said, “living purpose, dying in purpose is to die empty.”   We celebrate you, your life, and your legacy lives on Dr. Myles Munroe!!!

  5. What a beautiful reflection!
His legacy lives on indeed. He was a mighty power house of wisdom. I got hold of his book at age 19, and ever since i was hooked to his teaching. His skills of an author were out of this world…i mean simple and practical truths based on the principles of God’s word. He could speak to religious leaders, government officials, a guy on the streets, and his message would be relevant across all spheres. WOW!!!
Am still in shock, but he seemed to have been ready to go be with Jesus as per his interview with Jeff.
I am encouraged by John 12:24 “unless a grain of wheat dies…..but its death bears much fruit” It is a call to all of us who have been impacted by his teachings to wake up and arise into fulfilling our purpose…and “die empty”
